Volvo, Finns, 2016 Evaluation trials and more sailing news

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's European newsletter.

The 2012 Finn Junior and Senior European Championship are three races into the regatta in Scarlino Italy.

Equipment Evaluations for the 2016 Olympic Sailing Competition are underway in Santander, Spain. Sail-World has the latest news and videos.

Across the world in New Zealand, the Volvo Ocean Race competitors have left Auckland and the fleet are headed for Itajai (Brazil). Facing rough weather and building seas, Franck Cammas and his crew on Groupama 4 are now second behind Camper while Telefonica skippered by Iker Martinez (ESP) is now facing a protest over sail inventory..

Former Finn world champion Wolfgang Gertz (GER) is the 2012 Laser World Standard Grand Master. Gertz won the title in a close fought contest, sailed in Brisbane, Australia last week. ‘It was a good regatta, good sailing and very enjoyable' said Gertz.

Finn Junior and Senior European Championship - Race 3

Three days into the 2012 Finn European Championship with just three races completed is not what it said in the brochure. Another light day with a fitful wind produced just one race on Wednesday in Scarlino, Italy. London 2012 - It is anticipated that Weymouth and Portland will be a major attraction during the Games, with in excess of 500,000 people expected to visit during the Sailing events. 2016 Equipment Evaluations - Skiffs and multihulls Day 4 + Video

Day four in Santander began with light winds which led to sailing being briefly postponed. Despite waiting for breeze, it was a productive morning for the female skiff sailors as they joined Evaluation Panel members Adrienne Cahalan (AUS) and Sylvia Vogl (AUT) in an informal session where they all gave feedback on the skiffs they'd sailed so far.... Entry 1000 for the XXX Garda Optimist Meeting is Aline Schmittmann, born in 1998, Junior category, sailing number Ger 12690 from Seehaupt Yacht Club. This year, the event is setting out to break a new Guinness World Record.
