Here's the message: if you want to play in the major league, get your sponsors lined up, give them what they want, and give them value for money. This was what came over loud and clear from Knut Frostad, CEO of the Volvo Ocean Race when we spoke to him last week in Sanya. We had a 10-minute date with him which turned into 45 minutes of 'full and frank' discussion. It's worth a read.
Speaking of the VOR, the sailors were quaking in their sea boots at the thought of a trip through the Luzon Strait. But they seem to got away without either a pasting or a glass-out, and are now heading out into the big open spaces of the western Pacific where there's plenty of space to make decisions - and mistakes. Watch when they swing right and south - that's when the real fun will begin.
