Welcome to Sail-World Canada
Great Results at Miami OCR!
With less than five months to go to London 2012, the Canadian Sailing Team has posted great results at the US Sailing Rolex Miami OCR event in Biscane Bay this past week. Today is the last day for Paralympic Classes where Paul Tingley will aim for the top podium spot after starting the day in second place, McRoberts and Louttit are currently in fourth in the Skud and the Sonar team is 8th. Medal races for all other classes are tomorrow where Ladha and Inkpen are fifth in 49er, followed by Cook and Lowden in sixth; In the Finn class, Canadians Douglas and Robitaille are also fifth and sixth respectively. David Wright clings on to third place in the Laser, Chris Dold dropped to eighth yesterday after a a bad day but posted great results earlier in the week. Other notable results include David Hayes in RS:X Men, Dominique Vallee in the RS:X Women and the Clark/Bjorn team in the Star. Congratulations to the entire team!
After a week of open water sailing, things are about to become very interesting in the Volvo Ocean Race as the leaders reach the northern tip of Sumatra and consider their options to negotiate the Strait of Malacca. the top five yachts are within ten miles of each other and Team Sanya is only 15 miles behind; anything can happen over the next few days as the fleet travels through one of the busiest body of water in the world.
The next big event in the islands is the RORC Caribbean 600; this will be the fourth running of this prestigious event. Unfortunately, last year's winner Rambler 100 will not be there following their Fastnet capsize but owner George David will be defending with the smaller Reichel-Pugh Rambler 90. Others will be there fighting for line honour, including Zennstrom's Ran and the Volvo 70 Gran Jotti.
Do not forget you can support the sailing community by attending the upcoming Canadian Rolex Sailor of the Year Event, presented by the Canadian Yachting Association and Rolex Canada at The Carlu in Toronto, Saturday, February 4, 2012 followed by the Ontario Sailing Celebration of Sailing Mad Men Gala later in the spring, on March 31st.
All the best!
