It's the run up to Christmas – we know that, because we just went to Phuket to dip our toes into the very comfortable world of superyachts. OK, so only two of the fleet of ten were actually sailing yachts, but we did find out that a 40m San Lorenzo motor yacht makes a nice stable platform by way of a camera boat!
The Volvo boats are on the way to... well, we don't actually know, as they are presently headed for a mystery destination in order to be shipped to another mystery destination in order to avoid the Somali/Gulf of Aden/Indian Ocean pirates. All except, that is, the ill-fated Team Sanya who are en route to a port in Madagascar with rig damage. We noted during the opening leg of the VOR, when three boats out of six were down and out, that the UK's Daily Telegraph ran a headline that said ‘VOR fleet decimated. We pointed out to them that ‘decimated' means one-out-of-ten, and this a great deal worse...
