Camper brands with sailing, FindaCrew world view, Marine13 conferenceAs we wind down for Christmas, there's nothing nicer than planning our summer recreation, both active and passive. I plan to paddle, learn to 'yak fish', avoiding the sun with buckets of slip, slop, slap, AND watch my share of sport on TV.
The Rolex Sydney to Hobart is on my agenda too (as an observer). We will see the flotilla around the 27th cruising down past Batemans Bay and Bega - what a sight, even from a distance! Best wishes for those we know onboard the impeccable craft headed south, and those we admire from afar. Safe seas!
In this week's batch of stories there are some tributes to industry stalwarts, like Mercury legend, John Johnson who celebrates 40 years in engines and still powering, as well as news that The Tavern is back at Sanctuary Cove for the 2012 boat show - something that will bring back memories for many exhibitors and visitors alike. The new Cove Tavern is a traditional pub with a modern edge, so says its owner, Max Alfieri, a well-respected Gold Coast restaurateur.
Also this issue, features on the Coral Sea, from a conservationist's perspective, in an exclusive interview with Daisy Barham, Coral Sea campaigner from the Australian Marine Conservation Society, Camper and its association with sailing, and some inspiration for the New Year that might broaden your own horizons - tips and travelogues from sailors who have used Find a Crew to hook up with their dream boats, all over this wide world.
On that note, Happy Christmas! Hope you enjoy strong summer sales if you're in retail or a dealer, along with some time off to savour some boating yourself.
We will be on deck throughout the festive season, so email or call with your thoughts and stories. Thank you all for a superlative year. Can't wait for 2012!Jeni Bone, editor
