All eyes on Perth 2011, Volvo fleet prepare for leg 2 and more ....

Welcome to this edition of Sail-World.com's UK newsletter.

All eyes are on Perth 2011 ISAF Sailing World Championships. The competition is heating up as some classes head into their gold medal races while others are just beginning their competition.

Ben Ainslie is back in the Finn lead after a few days of sitting in third. Giles Scott is now second, with Ed Wright third. Lucy Macgregor is fighting hard in the Women's Match Racing, having to contest a 15-race repechage round to claim one of the four remaining quarter-finals berths while 470 Men's crew Luke Patience and Stuart Bithell consolidated their overall second position.

Transat B to B skipper, Mike Golding (Gamesa) is back on form after suffering from stomach cramps whilst contesting the single-handed race from Saint Barts, Caribbean to Lorient, Brittany.

The Volvo fleet is preparing for in-port racing ahead of the start of leg 2 from Cape Town to Abu Dhabi on 11th December.

Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand have again survived a protest against their forestay set-up breaching Volvo Open 70 rules. The protest was lodged by Groupama 4 who alleged that several aspects of Camper's forestay and rigging set-up over leg one were illegal. An international jury dismissed the protest. The Clipper Round the World yachts are facing challenging conditions on their current leg from New Zealand to Australia's Gold Coast, while the Global Ocean race's double-handed crews are reaching east on port in the Roaring Forties, some 1,800 miles from the Cape of Good Hope, Africa, and 2,600 miles from Cape Leeuwin at the south-western tip of Australia.

Volvo Ocean Race team Groupama lodged a protest against Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand, at the end of leg one, alleging that several aspects of Camper's forestay and rigging set-up over leg one were illegal.
