Ten Olympics Class Worlds in Perth – and another Sail-World record

Just been talking to John Longley, the event direct for the upcoming Perth 2011, which is now just 18 days away. He is excited the event is almost here, but the first part of the conversation was about Elise Rechichi and Belinda Stowell – the 2008 and 2000 Olympic 470 Gold Medallists, still leading, as of this morning at the World Sailing Cup – Sail Melbourne 2011.

As a proud West Australian he is over the moon that the local girls have ‘come down from the hills' in time to race against the best teams in the World at the 2011 Women's 470 championship, just one of ten at Perth 2011. You will be able to read our interview with Long John and Skip Lissiman this weekend.

Did you notice that Royal Queensland Yacht Squadron is looking for a Regatta and Sailing Manager? RQ in 2012 will host six Australian championships, four world championships and a bunch of state and regional regattas. We won't be surprised if there are applications from around the world for this role. If you know anyone who could fill this seat, nudge them now!!

We've had an amazing response to our detailed Volvo Round the World coverage. Thank you for your kind words. Last week we set another record for Sail-World traffic. The biggest week in our history, bigger than the America's Cup in Valencia.

Lots of interesting news, catch up with it now, next you will the first of our Perth 2011 and Olympic newsletters, before we send your our latest Volvo Ocean Race weekly summary.
