8 million newsletters ahead, Online auction buzz, Expo boosts boatingThis is a great time of year to get out on the water around Australia and NZ as its warms up for a southern hemisphere summer. And despite the Bureau's warnings of a La Nina episode like last year, with massive rains forecast for the east coast of Oz, manufacturers and dealers are optimistic (one of the best business tools in this game) of a good start to the season.
Announcing the boating season on Queensland's Gold Coast, is the inaugural Gold Coast Marine Expo, 4-6 November, hosted by the ideal venue - the Coomera marine precinct, which is home to the Gold Coast City Marina, Riviera, Maritimo, Telwater and many more. Free and with plenty of attractions just ideal for families, the event hopes to lure the crowds with an assorted program of activities, hands on experiences and behind the scenes views of the art and business of boat manufacturing.
It will be a great boost to boating for the coming season, and organisers are hopeful of sales and leads to start off 2012. Event organisers are becoming more and more creative in appealing to visitors and creating showcases for exhibitors. In coming weeks we will bring you some of the novel and natural-fit programs that the major boat shows like Fort Lauderdale and others are implementing to keep numbers stable and exhibitors happy.
We will also have results of the Survey conducted at the Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show and weeks thereafter, shedding some light on buying behaviour, feedback, peeves and preferences and what visitors are looking for from modern events. Watch this space!
Marine Auctions will start their online auctions soon, Monday 14 November - all the extraordinary boats you have come to expect, but now available to a national and worldwide audience. We will follow up after the 10 day duration with a report on the inaugural auction and results.
For those of us who like our news fresh and first-hand, the Sail-World team is planning detailed coverage of all of the action and competition of the 2011-2012 Volvo Ocean Race starts, starting next week in Alicante Spain. Then, the Olympic newsletter series will start with Perth 2011 from 3 December. Between the two series there will be over eight million newsletters to our world-wide audience!
The TetraMedia advantage is that we are a global news network operating 24/7, so whether it's racing, boat shows or breaking news, there is always someone on deck to bring it to our readers – all 2 million (and rising) of you.
This week, we have a huge array of product stories and news, as well as plenty of opportunity for your comments and news. Keep sending your thoughts and opinions.
Til next time, pleasant boating!Jeni Bone, editor
