Welcome to this edition of our Sail-World.com UK newsletter.

Today as part of our Perth 2011 series we showcase the sailor standing between Paul Goodison and his second Laser Olympic Medal the 2010 ISAF World Sailor of the Year Tom Slingsby.

Young sailors from around the UK competed at the Eric Twiname Team Racing Championships hosted by the Oxford Sailing Club. From all reports the event was a big success, giving Junior and Youth sailors the opportunity to participate in a national team racing event.

Lots of local news from the Garmin Hamble Winter Series week 2, GP14s, RS Tera's, Laser's, National 12s and more.

Miranda Merron co-skipper of the Global Ocean Race leader Campagne de France reported levels of discomfort onboard - 'bouncing and slamming along in a disorderly sea with assorted cumulo beasties crowding the horizon. Double World champion, Tony Bouzaid, dies suddenly in New Zealand

Past winner of the NZ Yachtsman of the Year, double world champion and winner of numerous titles in the dinghy and skiff classes, Tony Bouzaid has passed away suddenly in New Zealand. He was also a noted conservationist and in conjunction with his brother Chris Bouzaid ran the highly successful Hood Sails loft in Auckland, before he moved to Great Barrier Island, 50 miles from Auckland.... America's Cup: Top young Kiwi match racers sign up with China Team

Richard Craig the OOD took full advantage of the lake and set a course covering the entire length of the water for race one. In too deep - Behind the Race to Mackinac tragedy

At 333 miles, the Chicago Yacht Club Race to Mackinac is the longest annual freshwater sailing race in the world. Before the 2011 race, the event had never seen a racing-related death in its 103 years.
