Henri Lloyd struts on Hammo, Bellingham scholarships, Walcon expandsHappy nearly Spring to you! There is a feeling that the southern hemisphere cold is over and we are moving in to real boating season, and by all accounts at the Brisbane International Boat Show, engine, boats and accessories sales were up, despite flat attendance figures.
The preliminary report from Marine Queensland is out already, to be followed by a more detailed story on feedback and trends later this week.
Also this week, a fashionable wrap up from the catwalk at Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, with the latest looks from Henri Lloyd, available from Burke Marine - some real inspiration for summer on and off the water.
We cover the issues, views, news and new products, including the chatty 'Can Do' Campbell Newman who appeared as guest speaker at the Gold Coast Media Club function last week and pledged to return authority over the jewel in SEQld's crown, the Broadwater, to the control of Council. We asked Marine Queensland for their take on that and some of the ramifications if the LNP does win the next state election and were to uphold that promise.
Did you know that the role of Sydney Harbour Master is 200 years old this year? We feature an exclusive interview with the current man in the job, Philip Holiday, fresh from Southampton, who moved here with his family to take up the position. He is responsible for the planningand overseeing of all aspects of port operations, including emergency responses and the safe navigation of nearly 2500 ship visits to Sydney Harbour and Port Botany every year, a waterway which handles goods to the value of $50bn. That's a big order.
It's the final days to express your views on boat shows, which could win you $14,000 worth of amazing boating prizes - among them a trip for two to Hayman Barrier Reef, as well as flights and spending money, a powerful Zodiac RIB and Honda 5hp engine, PFDs from RFD, along with gear, gadgets, apparel and more. Have your say on boat shows and be in with a chance to win it all!
There's plenty more, updated daily, so pop in each day and update your marine business perspective.Jeni Bone, editor
