 Offshore racing on the Great Lakes...
O Canada, skippered by two time Canadian Olympian Richard Clarke and supported by an entire Canadian crew is in third place in Division 1 today with a little over 600 miles to go to Hawaii. Conditions have improved and the team is heading back north along the rhumb line. Ahead of them, Magnitude 80 is looking to pass Bella Mente in first place, the two yachts have now split from each other, it should be interesting to see who finds better winds. Race progress across the Pacific can be followed on Yellowbrick at the official Transpac race website www.transpacrace.com
Speaking of Yellowbrick, based in the UK, they are the world's largest satellite-based tracking provider and have been selected as the tracking solution provider by the upcoming Lake Ontario 300 Challenge and Bayview-Mackinac Race. The team has arrived in Toronto on Tuesday and I had the pleasure of getting them settled in to PCYC for the Lake Ontario 300 Challenge this week-end. I was very impressed with their service and look forward to working with them as an event organizer.
Congratulations to Rossi Milev and the Clear Air crew for their win at the J/24 Canadian Championships hosted on lake Ontario this past week-end; next will be the North American Championships in Halifax at the RNSYS on August 8th.
We have a report from the Route Rimouski-Anticosti that started this past Sunday; the leaders have rounded Anticosti Island in the Gulf of St. Lawrence a few days ago and are on their way back to Rimouski.
Sail-World.com, the world's largest international sailing network, has launched its Facebook site earlier this week where you will find feature stories from many of our editors world-wide from the past six months; going forward, we will be adding key stories each day and photos of the Sail-World Team and their bios. A very interesting mix of sailing, journalism and photography backgrounds.
The Chicago-Mackinac Race and the Lake Ontario 300 Challenge are on this week-end; Sail-World will be on hand and cover both major events! I'll be reporting from the cockpit of Nick's Cafe on the Main Duck Island Course.
