Sail-World New Zealand: 18 June 2011
 | | Audi MedCup - 2011 - Marseille - Day 3 Ian Roman/Audi MedCup © | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 18 June 2011
More on the America's Cup in this edition, with several videos from around the Media Event held this week in San Francisco.
Kiwi-born but San Francisco based sailing journalist, Michelle Slade was at the Media launch, plus had the opportunity of a sail on the AC45 on the bay. Michelle gives her take on the events of the day and her ride.
It would be a massive understatement to say that Kimball Livingstone, a die-hard San Francisco sailor and journalist, is enthusiastic about the America's Cup being sailed in his home town. He's counting the sleeps already until September 2013. This week, he too, hitched a ride aboard the AC 45's and we have his report.
Then Bob Fisher, the world's foremost yachting journalist and longtime multihull exponent, chimes in with his take on the America's Cup in San Francisco. He too has the hots for the venue, the format, and boats.

Plus we have the real oil on the Team Australia challenge which was not mentioned at the function in the Ferry Building at San Francisco, but looks to be close to being chocks away. From what we have seen it is a little difficult to see why the team couldn't have been named on Wednesday - time will tell.
 | | J-class, Newport, RI, Day 2 17 June 2011 Daniel Forster |
On the East Coast of USA, there's another J-class regatta underway in Newport. There were to be three of these magnificent yachts sailing, but one pulled out at the last minute and stayed in the shed. Top photographers, Daniel Forster and George Bekris are on have and have shared several image galleries of these unique yachts.
In China, It has been announced that New Zealand's Mike Sanderson will skipper the Chinese entry in the Round the World Race, using one of the boats for the 2008/09 race. We have the story and images of the announcement in this edition.
