Sail-World New Zealand: 01 June 2011
 | | NZL 49er - Delta Lloyd regatta, Margje Tempelaars | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand newsletter for 01 June 2011
The road to the 2013 America's Cup twisted and turned yet again yesterday, and again today, Wednesday, after a Competitors Forum held by teleconference.
There was no announcement, or official comment, following the Forum - but late this afternoon a presser (press release) from the America's Cup organisers set out some basic changes to the America's Cup World Series and also the revised financial arrangements.
To some the moves look like a softening towards the start-up teams, but a deeper read indicates a hardening of attitudes - and a pay-up, or get out, breakpoint looming in a couple of weeks.
We detail the changes and their implications in a couple of commentary pieces in this edition. But several questions still remain unanswered at this stage.

The Auckland Fiji race gets underway on Saturday. Courtesy of Predictwind we are able to approximate the courses and elapsed times of the expected frontrunners, the Volvo 70 versus the ORMA 60 trimaran.
Although boats of both type are competing the the race in the form of Simon Hull's ORMA60 trimaran, TVS, and Emirates Team NZ's VOR70, Camper, the polars (computer generated predictions of boatspeed for a given wind speed and wind angle) are interesting but not necessarily accurate for this exercise.
If you are near a computer this weekend make sure you follow our coverage of the progress in the race, using the data and images from Predictwind.
It's a fairly safe bet that the record will be slashed, but time will tell.

In this edition we are featuring the second part of our interview with Greg Elliott, where he gives his views on the discontinuance of the Womens Keelboat from the 2016 Olympics. He covers a few other topics too, including the establishment of Club youth fleets and the America's Cup. As always Elliott is direct and to the point.
Many thanks to those who have contributed to this edition, particularly those using our online submission and image loading facility which can be accessed by clicking here
Good sailing!
