The fallout from the International Sailing Federation's decision to drop all keelboats from the 2016 Olympic Events slate continues in this edition we have a commentary from 2004 US Olympic representative in the Womens Keelboat, Carol Cronin, who while accepting the fate of the Star, has a lot of difficulty with understanding the rationale behind dropping a boat especially customised for the Olympics, before it has even sailed even a pre-Olympic Regatta.
As noted earlier, Emirates Team NZ have set off on their 2000nm Qualifying Voyage for the Volvo Ocean Race, and we have a mid-ocean report in this edition.
On late Thursday evening New Zealand time came the stunning news from the Challenger of Record for the 2013 America's Cup, Mascalzone Latino, that they were not continuing with their 34th America's Cup campaign. We have their announcement and a commentary on the implications in this edition of Sail-World.com

However perhaps even more staggering is that fact that over 24 hours have passed and there has not been any official comment or statement from America's Cup organisers on the matter. Having your Challenger of Record pull out is hardly 'business as usual'. From what we can deduce from the facts of the matter and various 'off the record', 'you can't quote me but ...' conversations the mantle of Challenger of Record will pass to Artemis Racing, of Sweden, who were the second Challenger.
Our information is that Royal NZ Yacht Squadron were the first Challenger, or attempt at Challenger, but hit the send email button a few seconds ahead of the opening of entries, and were not accepted initially, but were taken on the second attempt about 40 minutes later. In the meantime Artemis Racing had got their Challenge into Golden Gate Yacht Club.

Tomorrow through to Sunday will see the Hutchwilco New Zealand Boat Show running in Auckland. This is claimed to be the largest boat show in New Zealand and certainly has something for everyone.
