Internet surpasses newspapers, Q-Sub world debut, Sail Port StephensAround the world in 80 stories, or more. This week's batch plumbs the depths with the Auckland inventor, Hugh Fulton to unveil his Q-Sub at the upcoming Hutchwilco NZ Boat Show in May, and hits the heights with a US study which indicates for the first time, digital (online, mobile and tablet) news has overtaken traditional print media in popularity with consumers.
People want portable, up to the minute, interactive and authoritative news as it's happening and are not content to wait for a day, or a month, for it. Read what experts and media moguls say about the migration to digital, and what it means for advertisers.
The China (Shanghai) Boat Show is over for another year, hitting record numbers for visitation and exhibitors, and observations are it has outgrown its current venue - which is precisely why it intends to move to the World Expo site across the river in Pudong for 2012, complete with on-water displays and trials.
Korea too is celebrating numbers, announcing the Korea International Boat Show to be held at the Jeongok Harbour and Marina close to capital city Seoul in June is now closed to exhibitors, having reached the 230 quota for this year.
We have all the insider details about the 4th annual Sail Port Stephens regatta, destined to take its place among the 'must visit' events in the country, and perhaps internationally, following the success of last week's event. Sail Port Stephens is the fastest growing regatta in the Asia Pacific and industry experts believe the event has a great future, thanks to its 'gob-smackingly beautiful' backdrop and proximity to major centres - great for sponsors, competitors, boaties and the broader public.
We also have plenty of news, new products and features from Australia, New Zealand, Asia, the Middle East, Europe and the US. Check out the cigarette butt campaign from BoatUS, which worked with a group of marinas to encourage boaties to can their stubs rather than flick them overboard. It's estimated it reduced litter from ciggies by around 63% from the 43 participating marinas - what a great initiative!
As Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show approaches, we will have heaps to impart in the next few days, and weeks. Watch this space for the details of a promotion that could bag you the absolutely most incredible prize pool ever!
Have a great week and keep in touch!Jeni Bone, editor
