Welcome to Sail-World Canada

Leopard3 Transatlantic Record Attempt

A Pacific Northwest tradition was maintained this past weekend with the 67th running of the 2010 Swiftsure International Race at the Royal Victoria Yacht Club on beautiful Vancouver Island. As is typically the case, conditions varied from gear-braking 30 knots at the start to winds shutting down later on the weekend, forcing most entries to retire before crossing the finish line in Victoria.

With approximately 300 miles to go to New York city, the race is back in the Atlantic for the Clipper Round the World fleet after a few days of very light and frustrating conditions. Cape Breton Island is currently trailing leader Uniquely Singapore by a few miles but a drag race is on!

ICAP Leopard, the 100ft super-maxi racing yacht owned by Mike Slade, crossed the start line at Ambrose Light outside New York City on Saturday to begin her attempt on the 2,925 nautical mile monohull transatlantic speed record of 6 days, 17 hrs and 52 minutes held by Mari Cha IV. Her attempt can be followed live at www.leopard3.com

See you soon on the water!
