For a couple of years now, we have been hearing about the 5-star sailing conditions to be found in Boracay. And now that the 'barong curtain' has been drawn aside, and there is actually sailing news coming out of the Philippines, we were about to head off to Subic for this year's Subic-Boracay Race followed by the inaugural Boracay Cup, to find out what all the superlatives were about.
But here's the sad thing: the Boracay Cup has been cancelled. A member of the Organising Committee said, “It appears that there are now too many events in Asia all trying to attract the same few boats to make up an exciting Racing Class. So as not to detract from the Philippines' premier event, the Commodore's Cup event in Subic Bay in April after the China Sea Race, it has been decided that the Boracay Cup 2010 is cancelled.”
Anyone care to nominate a regatta or two to be discontinued, so as to make space in the calendar?
08 February: just a week until the America's Cup kicks off. Maybe we will get to see those Magnificent Monster Multihulls with the pedal to the metal after all. Sail-World will be bringing you full reports from Valencia.
Your club may not quite be running the America's Cup, but we are just as interested in your sailing events and activities: send race reports and photos to us via the "Submit News and Pics" button on the Sail-World Asia home page (www.sail-world.com/asia). We look forward to hearing from you.

It has become clear that there are now so many events in the Asian calendar that the top boats cannot attend them all. So as not to detract from the premier Commodore's Cup event in April after the China Sea Race, it has been decided that the Boracay Cup 2010 is cancelled.... [more] Onsend this story
