Well, that was certainly a week to remember! I awoke this morning wondering just where I was, for I was greeted by a spectacular sunrise. Sunshine, in Queensland?

Shame it didn't emerge for the 21st Sanctuary Cove International Boat Show, which lost an entire day when organisers were unable to complete the move-in. Having attended all 21 shows to date, I must confess the weather front was definite first – never before have I experienced a boat show so affected.

Still, it was definitely the place to be for any one in the Asia Pacific region interested in boating. Mind you, while organisers were content with the attendance of some 36,000-plus, the Sanctuary Cove Show does pale into insignificance when compared to some others – for example, the Korea International Boat Show scheduled for next week will attract 10-times that many visitors.

However, there was no shortage of new product releases during the show and we'll unveil many to you in the coming weeks.

Despite being in the hands of receivers, Riviera unveiled plans to build motor yachts in Taiwan and claimed numerous boats sold during the show. Sadly, the following day, 157 workers were laid off and told not to hang about waiting for their entitlements.

Let me make a point here; Riviera last Monday laid off 157 employees; believe it, do not put any stock whatsoever in reports that have filtered through in other marine media that 455 were laid off!

Struth, we've given ‘em the vote, let them have drivers' licences and now they want to take over the boating industry! Seriously tho' we boys get too wrapped in engine specs. forgetting that there will be no purchase decision at all without SWMBO's approval and that family boating is just that, so we need more feminine perspective. It's notable that marine companies who have recognised the purchasing realities are expanding their consumer base better than those who have not.
