Powerboat-world Editorial: Tuesday, October 28, 08

An important week in the Powerboating world, this coming weekend will see the Gold Coast stand unchallenged as power boating's world capital, playing host to hard-fought competition in a score of classes and welcoming more than 100 delegates from the Union Internationale Motonautique.

There's so much going on it's difficult to know where to start, but I am definitely taking up the invitation from APBA president Tony Walsh to be at the opening cocktail party on Thursday evening, 78 floors up in Q1, allegedly the world's tallest residential tower.

Racing starts on Friday with the big horsepower of the offshore racers and continues through Saturday and Sunday with Formula I and II, various displacement classes, mono hulls and jet skis.

Don't miss this one.

Its been an imporrtant month for Australian boat builders, Riviera and Maritimo, for whom exporting has sudden become much easier with the Australian dollar dropping from 97-98 to 60-61. That will no doubt increase the flow of new models over the coming year and increase their presence right across the Asia Pacific.

R Marine, the retail arm of boat builder Riviera, is staging its very own boat show shortly, at, would you believe, 13 locations in seven cities accross Australia New Zealand and in Asia!

In other news we briefly preview the approaching E.C.Griffith Cup, that fabulous piece of silver that Australia's and New Zealand's fastest hydros fight for.

We have the results for the China Grand Prix in Shenzhen and we report on offshore racing's Victory team triumph in the Egyptian Grand Prix.

Fair dinkum, as they say in the classics, it's all happening and it's all here on Powerboat-World.com

Read on, and drop back regularly for updates on the weekend action.
