Editorial: Will tomorrow be a better day?

Six days of racing scheduled. One day of racing complete, is the scorecard thus far in the 2007 Louis Vuitton Cup.
The vociferous chastising that Auckland took in 2003 over the number of race days lost in 2003 and its effect that was having on the Cup, seems rather ironical in the current circumstances.
To put Auckland in perspective, in the 73 day duration of the Louis Vuitton and America’s Cup, 26 days (35.6%) were postponed due to inclement weather - at both ends of the scale.
While there is no point in crying over split milk, maybe in future events, the marketing mandarins will listen to the sailors and race officials, realising that no venue is perfect. And to have racing, first you must have some certainty on the wind.
As we saw yesterday all seems to be quickly forgotten once racing does get underway, but that is not really the point. The damage has been done, and to have this level of uncertainty in an event of the magnitude of the Louis Vuitton Cup is just as unacceptable in Valencia, as it was said to be in Auckland.
In our frustration we can but joke about the present, and look forward to better times, I’m sure.
However this is a joke that is wearing rather thin.
