WMRT Argo Group Gold Cup – Mirsky defeats Berntsson in close final

The Wave Muscat wins again - Argo Group Gold Cup - World Match Racing Tour 2011 Chris Davies/AWMRT
Argo Group Gold Cup, the seventh stage of the World Match Racing Tour, was held at the Royal Bermuda Yacht Club, on Hamilton Harbor.

The Wave Muscat won the Bermuda Gold Cup in fine form, defeating Sweden's Johnnie Berntsson in a closely fought finals that went right down to the wire.

Both teams left the dock after the final of the RenaissanceRe Junior Gold Cup final, with The Wave Muscat up one point, having won the first race of the day sailed in the morning. The Swede's must have had a big lunch, as they hit the water with momentum.

'We had our work cut out for us this afternoon' said Kyle Langford who almost had his legs cut off by Berntsson's boat in a major collision this morning. 'His team was finding some extra pace from somewhere, so we were working over time to get the shifts right, but it was a big help that Torvar was on fire - putting three penalties on Johnnie over the series.'

After a slow start to the season, The Wave Muscat have radically reduced the gap on Tour leader Ian Williams and his GAC Team Pindar who only managed a seventh here.

'This win comes from a long time together and a lot of hard work' said Mirsky, still dripping with champagne. 'Our campaign on the Tour actually started here at the Argo Group Gold Cup five years ago, so I'm so stoked we won! Now we just have to get the hat-trick in Malaysia and get that World Championship!'

The Wave Muscat will go head to head with the other title contenders in the Monsoon Cup at the end of November. You can show your support for the team on their Mirsky Racing Team Argo Group Gold Cup World Match Racing Tour website
