Volvo Ocean Race - Dongfeng démâte, l’équipage est sain et sauf

La Volvo Ocean Race confirme que Dongfeng Race Team a démâté tôt ce lundi (30 mai, temps GMT). Personne n’est blessé et l’équipage n’est pas en danger immédiat.

L’incident s’est déroulé à 240 miles nautiques à l’ouest du Cap Horn, à 0315 UTC ce lundi peu avant le lever du jour.



Selon l’équipage franco-chinois, le mât a cassé au dessus de la troisième barre de flèches, la partie la plus haute du gréement. Les hommes de Charles Caudrelier ne prévoient pas de continuer à courir sur cette étape et se dirigent par leurs propres moyens vers Ushuaia, en Argentine.

Joint via Inmarsat, Caudrelier, le skipper français, est forcément très dépité.

« Je suis déçu. Comme vous avez pu le voir sur les rapports de position, nous avons volontairement levé le pied, nous n’avons pas du tout attaqué.

« Le mât a cassé sans prévenir, dans 30 nœuds de vent environ. Nous ne pouvons pas naviguer en sécurité sur tribord, mais nous pouvons avancer raisonnablement sur bâbord. Nous allons nous diriger vers Ushuaia et évaluer nos options pour rejoindre Itajaí. »



Le Maritime Rescue Coordination Centre (MRCC) est au courant de la situation et prêt à intervenir si nécessaire.

Nous sommes en contact constant avec Caudrelier pour le soutenir autant que possible à gérer la situation.
