The Spanish MAPFRE camp is not at all pleased with decisions coming from the International Jury. Unhappy with the apparent inconsistencies in penalties imposed after Traffic separation zone violations, skipper Iker Martinez says any rule that sees four out of six boats potentially before the Jury it probably means the rule needs simplifying.
And about the outrigger repair penalties, where he feels prudent seamanship counts for nought.
Interesting thing is that in the America’s Cup world, Martinez’s robust comments questioning Jury decisions in this Sail-World interview below, would attract a Rule 63 slap down, whereas the culture within the Volvo Ocean Race scene allows a diversity of opinions.
