Sexta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race está nos quilômetros finais e dois barcos estão quase grudados na primeira posição: Dongfeng Race Team e Abu Dhabi Ocean Racing devem cruzar a linha de chegada em Newport, Rhode Island, nas próximas horas



As últimas horas da sexta etapa da Volvo Ocean Race serão bem disputadas. Depois de 17 dias de regata entre Itajaí, no Brasil, e Newport, nos Estados Unidos, o chinês Dongfeng e o árabe Abu Dhabi estão praticamente empatados e devem cruzar a linha de chegada até o início da madrugada desta quinta-feira (7). Para uma regata de mais de 5 mil milhas náuticas é possível fazer uma comparação com o sistema de photo finish, usado em competições de atletismo e ciclismo.



Os chineses do Dongfeng Race Team lutam para tentar reduzir a vantagem na classificação geral para os adversários árabes. Hoje, o Abu Dhabi é o primeiro no geral com sete pontos para o barco chinês. 'O meu sonho americano, na verdade, é vencer a regata. Conheço muita gente que quer ir aos Estados Unidos para estudar e trabalhar, mas hoje eu só penso em chegar logo em primeiro', disse o chinês Liu 'Black' Xue. 'Eu sou uma pessoa simples e fico longe da distração do lado de fora do oceano para que eu possa me concentrar nas regatas'.



Os três barcos que estão logo atrás deles - Team Brunel (Bouwe Bekking / HOL), MAPFRE (Xabi Fernández / ESP) e Team Alvimedica (Charlie Enright / EUA) lutam para se aproximar, mas devem chegar minutos depois dos líderes. Enquanto isso, na parte de trás da flotilha, o Team SCA (Sam Davies / GBR) perdeu terreno significativo nas últimas 24 horas e não deve pegar pódio.

Os barcos vão passar 10 dias em Newport, que hospeda a regata pela primeira vez, antes de cruzar para o outro lado do Atlântico. EUA até Portugal é a sétima etapa que começa em 17 de maio.
