Mike Golding - Vendee Globe 2012-13 Gamesa Sailing Team
After leaving Les Sables d’Olonne at the start of the Vendée Globe 75 days 12 hours 12 mins and 26 seconds ago, Mike Golding passed back across the Equator into the northern hemisphere this morning at 00:14:26hrs UTC.
Since yesterday evening Golding has been slowed in the Doldrums and was making around eight knots at times this morning. His main rival, Jean Le Cam, who holds fifth place, has made a move towards the west, hitching some 25 miles further west than Mike who is holding the same course. Golding had caught-up to be just 22 miles behind Le Cam and they crossed the Equator only five hours apart.
