Talent2 Quarantine Station Race for Couta Boats
Sat, 19 Jan 2013
Alex McKinnon was out on the water from the Sorrento Sailing and Couta Boat Club on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula to capture the action in the Talent2 Race to the old Quarantine Station. A cool, fluctuating, but often stiff Southerly with ample sunshine greeted the fleet, where Salacia got the Line Honours victory on the day.
The fleet started just North of the clubhouse and worked back in to the shore for a quick loop in front of the sponsors amassed on the balcony, before then heading off West down the Sorrento Channel, towards Port Phillip Heads. There were some quiet times to get through, along with many a patch of squirt, as the bullets flung around the various headlands. It made for great watching and the various guests dotted throughout the vessels smiled and enjoyed, with quite a few commenting on how quickly the whole race transpired. No doubt they’ll be keen to get another invitation next year.
Ultimately, you had to notice that it was kind of an unofficial Ladies Day on board the Couta Boat fleet, which made you think that the sponsors name very much lent itself to the added glamour out there.
Well done to all the sailors, volunteers, and of course the sponsor, for being part of such a great event.
