Chris Nicholson, skipper of second place getter in the Volvo Ocean Race, Camper with Emirates Team New Zealand, had a big day out when he joined the America’s Cup sailing crew on the teams AC72 America's Cup Challenger.
Nico’s more familiar with the long periods of spartan life on board a round-the-world racing yacht, but he admits he could become accustomed to day sailing, especially on board a big cat.
Nicholson holds 24 hour speed record for the last Volvo Ocean Race – a blistering record run of 566nm in leg 8.
The world record record – is 596.6nm, (average speed) 24.85 knots which Ericsson achieved in the previous edition of the race. That mark is also a world record for monohull.
