Light winds for Calibre Sails 2012 Hartley TS 16 Nationals
|
The Hartely TS 16 Nationals were held at Parua Bay, in Whangarei with 20 boats racing. The weather was light variable breezes and has proved to be great racing conditions, forcing the sailors to be continually reassessing the best options with one side favoured one leg and the next the other side pays. Pronto, sailed by Gareth and Mike Insley have had a great regatta, winning most races. At the end of day 2, 3 boats were sitting on 18, 19, 20 points. IRL Shoestring sailed by Guy Pilkington / Grant Hartley, Rumbo sailed by Wayne Holdt / Jeremy Pitt, local boat Cirrus sailed by Joseph Wright / Dave Fisher. With three races to go, Day 3 was shaping up for some interesting racing – but as happens with racing the wind did not want to play ball and no races took place. This year, a ranking system called 'One Design Class Handicap System' is being trialled at the National for the handicap section of the regatta – this system has been used by the Zephyr Class and is designed to keep everyone engaged. The results are looking very interesting for this part of the event. The Parua Bay has great facilities for running events like this with ramps for launching, space for parking, grass area for tents and a good volunteer base to help with the event.
