STACK Winter Champs 2011 Coaching programme wraps up

Brian Haybittle©

The coaching programme for the STACK Winter Champs 2011 wraps up Wednesday after two days of intensive on the water coaching.

120 of New Zealand's best young sailors were coached in some testing conditions by 20 of our best young coaches. The annual coaching programme is the precursor to the STACK Winter Champs 2011 regatta which commences on Friday.

With registrations of over 190 boats it is promising to be a very exciting weekend for all competitors. Regular news is being posted on the Murrays Bay Sailing Club Facebook page.

The annual Winter Champs Regatta is being sailed off Murrays Bay Sailing Club 14th to 16th October. Sponsored again by STACK the Business Interior Specialists.

The sailors had a training clinic on Tuesday in un-forecast Northerly fog and then light and murky conditions. Wednesday has brought on a blustery 15-25 kts.

Fleets are mixed juniors and youth classes including Green and Open Fleet Optis, P, Class, Starlings, Laser Redials, 420's and Bic Techno Windsurfers.

The coaching this year is being run by Andrew Brown of Force Racing who will be coordinating coaches and sailors. The ratios of coaches to students has been excellent. Usuall about groups of 5 per coach. 120 sailors have been involved in the training

With a turnout of up to 300 Sailors the STACK Winter Champs is the largest three day sailing regatta in New Zealand.

The STACK Winter Champs is the first major regatta for the season and as such is an important regatta for any seriously competitive sailor.

Thanks also to Harken, Burnsco and the numerous volunteers for their generous support.
