Mike ‘Moose’ Sanderson puts the foot down on Team Sanya for the first time with her new Stratis GPX sails by Doyle. First reports are Mike and his Team Sanya crew are justifiably thrilled with the results of the first sea trials of their Stratis sail wardrobe, flown in from Doyle ‘s New Zealand loft. 'The sails went on, fitted perfectly, all shapes are exactly what was wanted. 'We had 25 knots to put things through their paces and with the Rolex Fastnet next week we’re thrilled to not have to be making any changes to our sail plan. 'Our feedback is the Sanya sail program is ahead of almost every other sail program on the V70's after the first attempt. All involved are very complimentary.' Team Sanya has come a very long way in a short space of time, particularly considering six weeks ago it was not even an entry into the Volvo Ocean Race. With the only set of Stratis sails in the V70 fleet it will be very interesting to see how the 'dark horse' goes in this first offshore challenge. As a two times previous Volvo Ocean Race winner Moose has been actively involved in the development of Team Sanya’s Stratis sail programme at the Doyle Sail loft in Auckland, New Zealand, which includes for the first time a Stratis downwind gennaker. Team Sanya are a newcomer to the Volvo Ocean race but have already split from the fleet by being the only challenger so far to specify Stratis sails. Now with their first test sail in 25 knots of wind the first results are in and it’s all good news. 'The Stratis sails fitted perfectly and the shape achieved was everything we wanted,' said Moose. Their achievement was apparent in the crews’ grins and the fact that no significant alterations are required for the Fastnet race.
