The fastest growing regatta in Australia, Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week, has taken another giant step forward.

Terry Dodd, from Sealink announced today '‘North Queensland has suffered some setbacks in the last few months, but now we are looking forward to the 2011 Sealink Magnetic Island (SMIRW) event, which will be bigger and better than in previous years. This year SMIRW will host the 2011 F18 Catamaran Australian Championship - a strong expansion of an already spectacular event. ‘

‘'We are pleased to announce the event is being lengthened by an extra day with more races. A lay day on Sunday September 4th will feature a vibrant street festival at Horseshoe Bay.'

Regatta Director Denis Thompson added ‘This regatta has continued to attract a larger fleet each year and now with a substantial fleet, it’s the right time to add an extra day.

'It’s very pleasing that the F18 Catamaran class has recognised that this is a very desirable venue for its 2011 National titles and we look forward to some great racing for the catamarans and for the entire fleet.'

This regatta is classified as a Category '6' event (YA Special Regulations, Part 1).
