ISAF World Cup (Melbourne) funding to be won at YouthSail 2009

Travel assistance to compete in Sail Melbourne in 2009 is available to be won by each of six class winners st the 2009 Youthsail Regatta to be staged at Naval Point YC in Christchurch.

The move is designed to strengthen international competition, for young sailors and offers them a great opportunity to take part in the Sail Melbourne Regatta which is the first round of the six event ISAF World Cup, second leg is the Rolex Miami Olympic Classes Regatta and the remaining four events are held in Europe.

The Melbourne leg of the World Cup is expected to draw some of the top sailing talent in the world, who will be in the second year of their buildup for the 2012 Olympics and just over one year away from Qualification for that regatta.

The prestigious YouthSail regatta for young 420, Laser and RS:X sailors, will take place at Naval Point Yacht Club from Tuesday 14 to Friday 17 April. A Notice of Race and other information is now available on the Naval Point Sailing Club website.

The regatta is open to all boats of the following classes:
420 Male
420 Female
Laser Radial Male
Laser Radial Female
Male windsurfer Neil Pryde RSX with 8.5sqm sail and 60 cm fin.
Female windsurfer Neil Pryde RSX with 8.5sqm sail and 60 cm fin.

A total of 12 races are scheduled in the regatta

Yachting New Zealand Perpetual trophies will be presented.

Medals will be awarded to the first three boats in each class.

Travel assistance provided by 'Naval Point Club Lyttelton' will be awarded to class winners to enable participation in 'Sail Melbourne' regatta in December 2009. Provided there are five or more boats competing in the class.

Excluded from this travel assistance are recipients of the :
- St Johns Rotary Scholarship
- Outsider Youth Sailing Scholarship for Girls
- NZL Yachting Trust Youth Team
