IOC President Jacques Rogge visited Qingdao city, the location of the 2008 Summer Games Olympic Sailing events on Monday, August 19. Rogge toured the Olympic Sailing Center and the Qingdao Olympic Sub-Village. In the afternoon, he observed the Laser Medal Race and Radial-Medal Race and attended a medal ceremony. In his meeting with the city's leading official, Yan Qijun, Rogge congratulated Chinese sailor Xu Lijia, winner of the bronze medal in the Laser Radial Race, China's first Olympic Sailing medal in this summer's Games. The IOC president also thanked Qingdao for its outstanding efforts in preparation for the Olympic Sailing events. Rogge said participating sailors and officials were happy with the Games organization. Great change had taken place since his last visit to Qingdao three years before. The city has become one of the world's top sailing venues, and it has an excellent working team, he added. During his visit, Rogge was accompanied by Yu Zaiqing, IOC vice-president, and Hein Verbruggen, chairman of the IOC Coordination Commission for the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. http://en.beijing2008.cn/news/official/ioc/
