The first two sailing events of the 2008 Olympic games get underway at 06:00 hrs UK time on Saturday morning, 9 August. Two races are scheduled for each class.
The Finn and Yngling classes are the two classes where Britain expects to strike Gold in the sailing events. Triple Olympic medallist Ben Ainslie has dominated the Finn class since winning Gold back in 2004 and is widely expected to repeat that feat in Qingdao.
The Yngling keelboat trio of Sarah Ayton, Sarah Webb and Pippa Wilson will also be in action on day one and as the double World, European and Pre-Olympic Test Event Champions, are another major hope for Gold.
All events, with the exception of the 49er, are scheduled to sail 11 races. The 49er event is scheduled to sail 16 races. For each event the regatta will consist of an opening series and a medal race.
The medal race will be scheduled on the day designated for each event's medal ceremony, if by that day six races of the full schedule have already been completed.
The top ten boats in the opening series will advance to compete in the medal race. All advanced boats will be required to compete in the medal race. On-the-water umpiring will be used in the medal race.
For the Finn and the Yngling sailors their racing will finish and medals awarded on Saturday 16 August.
