Wind moderating on Hauraki Gulf for the second race in the 2008 World Laser Radial Womens Championship. At start time the wind was still south west but only at 15 knots. In the yellow fleet France’s Sophie de Turckheim, who was fourth in the first race of the series, led at the top mark for the first time with Finland’s Sari Multala overlapping, just a second back. Anna Tunnicliffe USA was third with Charlotte Dobson (GBR) fourth. Paige Railey (USA) who was second in the first race, was back in sixth spot while first race winner Sarah Blanck (AUS) was thirteenth, 73 seconds off the pace having missed the first shift on the beat. On the run big gains by Railey who shot to the lead and Blanck, who made up seven places, to be sixth. Multala was holding second, Dobson third, Turckheim slipped to fourth.

It was a desperately close finish with Multala surging again; she finished two heart breaking seconds ahead of Railey with Dobson third. Sarah Blanck finished fourth. In the yellow fleet Multala leads with a 2,1 result from Railey with 3,2 and Blanck with 1,5. In the blue fleet second race, Sarah Steyaert (FRA) led at the first mark and held that lead midrace, second was Israel's Nufar Endelman, (much happier than after her first race fifteenth), with first race winner Evi Van Acker third. China's Lijia Xu was sixth ahead of World number one ranked Jo Aleh from New Zealand, holding the same place she took to the finish line in the first race. Steyaert finish two boat lengths ahead of Evi Van Acher, with Sara Carmo third, Endelman fourth and Xu fifith. Van Acher with a 1,2 result joins Multala at the top of the overall table. Overall results posted in the results section.
