Race organizers have rescheduled the round robins of the Louis Vuitton Cup which had been thrown into disarray by the week of light and shifty winds.

Race organizers have rescheduled the round robins of the Louis Vuitton Cup which had been thrown into disarray by the week of light and shifty winds.

The decision was made against the background of five of six race days having been lost, and the prospect for Sunday being marginal and the breeze early in the week is not look promising. The challengers had been consulted.

In effect the regatta restarts today on the RR1 second day race schedule. Two flights of races a day will be sailed in RR1 and if necessary two races a day will be sailed in RR2. Only one race a day is now scheduled.

The aim of the revised schedule is to sail all round robin matches by May 7.

The off-day between RR1 and RR2 has been cancelled. Two reserve days (May 8 and May 9) are scheduled at the end of RR 2 but racing will be held only if the semi-final qualifiers have not been decided.

The semi finals will start on May 14 as originally scheduled.

Dyer Jones said: 'This has been an unusually bad stretch of very calm weather with winds such that you cannot conduct fair races.' The race committee has to try to run races which are as fair as possible so that either yacht in a match has the opportunity to win.

'The competitors all want to go out and win the America's Cup. Every challenger is here for that sole purpose. They want to win, but they don't want to win it on a fluke and more importantly they don't want to lose races on a fluke.

He said the challengers had indicated that they would like to see races start in 7 to 23 knots 'and we're going to stick to that because we believe that will provide the best possible racing so that the teams can prove what they can do.'

The semi finals will remain on schedule, that is, they will start Monday May 14th. The new schedule gives a minimum of 4 days between the end of the round robin and the start of the semi finals and a maximum of 6 if the reserve days are not used.
