Ship Your Boat to the Cruising Ground- Economical?

'Dockwise Yacht Transport'    David Demarest
Dockwise Yacht Transport is the name of the company that has been on a lot of yachties’ lips recently. The thought of going cruising but for some reason not being able, or not wanting, to finish the journey, has stopped many people from undertaking long range cruising.

Dockwise Yacht Transport offers the solution, in that they specialise in transporting yachts from one side of the world to the other, and cover Mediterranean, North West Europe, East Coast US, West Coast America, South Pacific, Australia and the Caribbean – in other words, just about anywhere you want to go.

However, the rumours of the costs have been extreme. Al and Debbie Farner have just reported to Lectronic Latitude their personal story of what it cost to bring their Valiant 40 from Brisbane to San Francisco –‘not as much as reported, and, compared with the cost and time of sailing back when you don’t really want to, very good value for money.’

The Farners paid only USD18,560 (EUR15,434, UKP10,533, AUD24,767) - which they thought was a reasonable price considering the other options. There were also arrival fees that totalled USD243.

So it’s also and excellent solution for those who live in Europe but would like to base their boat in the South Pacific for a few years, or those in the Antipodes who fancy a few seasons of Mediterranean sailing – you save the marina fees at home, and you don’t have to pay expensive charter rates when you’re in your desired cruising ground.

Worth investigating?
