Many cruising boats have taken up to six months to meander from the southern states to enjoy the winter inside the Great Barrier Reef in Far North Queensland. The Cruising Non-spinnaker fleet is the most relaxed of all and amongst that fleet we find some very well known sailors and some key event sponsors. Antill International Marine Principal Jason Antill says Magnetic Island Race Week is a great event in a great location. 'The Palm Island group which includes Magnetic Island is completely different to other island groups on the Australian East coast. It is a wonderful cruising ground. 'We had a great time last year sailing on Peter and Paula Cox’s Dufour Grand Large 385 Valhalla and we really wanted to do more again so this year we have her sistership Dufour One entered.' 'It is easier sailing at this event than most, that is what I found last year. When you have got people that are visiting and it is a very fair place to go sailing and the navigation is certainly easier,' said Mr Antill. There is great atmosphere here at Magnetic 'I actually think that it’s a real camaraderie that happens between all the boats whether it is cruising or the racing guys. There is a lot more inner boat camaraderie and there is a lot more excitement and fun without any real pressure,'. 'Our purpose with supporting Magnetic Island Race Week is to help promote the event and increase participation. Last year we purchased a full set of marking buoys for the regatta which should last a few years,' said Mr Antill. This year’s mid-regatta Antill Marine prize has put in place as an incentive to kick start everyone's competitive nature for the first two days of racing - Friday & Saturday. This prize was Jason’s idea as in past regattas he has seen that yachts are a bit lazier at the start then midway through they'll start racing - perhaps handicap related. But now there is serious prize The rules for the competition are simple: 1. Finish 1st, 2nd or 3rd in any division on Friday & Saturday and you'll receive tickets into the draw (1st = 5 tickets, 2nd = 3 tickets, 3rd = 1 ticket). 2. Complete your name, yacht + phone number on the ticket & put it in the Antill Marine Entry Box at the Registration / Information Desk. 3. The prize will be drawn by Jason Antill on Sunday 2nd Sept during the daily presentations on the deck of Peppers Blue on Blue 4. The winner must be in attendance to win, otherwise the prize will be redrawn This year a BONUS round will be offered to anyone in the 'Dress up the Skipper' competition on Sunday afternoon.
