Sail-World.com : It’s getting Crazy
It’s getting Crazy

'July 18, 2012 America’s Cup - World’s first First AC72 unveiled - Emirates Team NZ AC72 first rigging - Viaduct Habour, Auckland, New Zealand. Close up of working cockpit showing steering wheels and grinding positions'    Richard Gladwell    Click Here to view large photo

With the Sydney to Gold Coast race, the Sydney International Boat Show and the London Olympics 2012 all just round the corner it’s getting crazy on the sailing scene.

Our Australian Olympic sailing team are all happily training in Weymouth, the latest report from Malcolm Page is that his roommate Nathan Outteridge is snoring just as hard as always, so situation normal. We will bring you some in-depth news from the camp in the next few days.

The Sail-World Team will start arriving in Weymouth on Thursday, Jed Kennedy is smart, she is coming from Spain and flying into Bournemouth to avoid Heathrow, while David Schmidt our US editor, Richard Gladwell, our Kiwi editor and I all have to run the Heathrow gauntlet.

'The Fish' Bob Fisher is driving down to Weymouth, like the gentleman he is, from Lymington only 40 minutes away, the lucky bastard. Mark Chisnell who is doing the ISAF blog as well as writing Sail-World features will be there ahead of time sussing out the local beer, (someone has to do it and we do appreciate his sacrifices).

Before Richard leaves Auckland, he will be doing a comprehensive report on the Emirates Team NZ AC72, we feature some of his pre-launch photos in this newsletter.

We will have a strong crew at the Sydney International Boat Show. Mark Rothfield, Jeni Bone, John Curnow, Phil Arane, Daryl Krasu, Rosalie Taylor and Sarah Ruggiero, they will be roaming the docks and the halls, so we will have lots of news, photos and video.

If you are in the Exhibition Halls at the Sydney boat show you can catch my London 2012 reports each day at 2:55pm at the Sailing Stage – will be reporting by Skype from Weymouth, where it will be 5:55am ( just on an hour after sunrise)

And closing today... congrats to Howard Piggott, the new Commodore of the CYCA and thanks a lot for all your great work to Garry Linacre the outgoing Commodore. Two top guys.

We will bring you an in-depth interview series with Howard in two parts in the weeks ahead.

Have a great weekend...
