Musto Skiff Pre-Worlds day 1
|
The ACO Musto Skiff World Championships started today with the first of a two day pre-worlds warm up regatta. The competitors have been arriving at WPNSA from far and wide and have quickly been passed through the registration and measurement process with the minimum of fuss and assembled this morning for a pre-race briefing from race officer David Campbell-James. The fleet launched in strong but manageable conditions and made their way towards the start area in the harbour. The wind speed built quickly to a sustained 25 knots, giving some of the competitors a chance to really stretch their legs and shake off any travel sleepiness that may have remained. At the committee boat the breeze and sea state had become quite challenging and the race-officer made the sensible decision to send the fleet ashore. Then after a short time the decision was made to postpone to tomorrow. This decision was welcomed by the competitors as no-one wants to tire their bodies and equipment just before a world championships. To make best use of the time Jon Newman (AUS) and Iver Ahlmann (GER) hosted a boat tuning seminar in the dinghy park to share information with some of the class new comers and also to share different ideas that may have developed in different regions as to how to best set up your Musto Skiff. This evening the class will be formally welcomed to WPNSA by the organising team and will enjoy some beers and a buffet. The forecast for tomorrow is for 14 – 18knot breezes so the fleet is looking forward to getting some pre-worlds racing in as the event builds towards the formal start of the regatta on Tuesday. Musto Skiffs Class website The class would like to take this opportunity to thank the class sponsor Musto, event title sponsor ACO and event marine sponsor Harken.
