Volvo Ocean Race: Telefonica to appear before Int Jury in Brazil

Volvo Ocean Race reports that the International Jury will schedule a hearing during the next stopover in Itajaí after receiving a report from the head of the Measurement Group over the sails carried by Team Telefónica during Leg 4 from Sanya to Auckland.
No date has yet been set for the hearing into the protest, which concerns an alleged breach of the notice of race 5.2.2.

race rules, each boat is required to carry on board one storm trysail, one storm jib and one heavy weather jib, plus a maximum of seven other sails, made up of a maximum of one mainsail, two headsails, three spinnakers and one staysail.
An announcement will be made once the International Jury decides on a date for the hearing.
Telefonica is the current overall race leader, in the 39,000nm Volvo Ocean Race. She has won three of the four ocean legs sailed so far, but only beat the fourth placed yacht Camper, into Auckland by just 93 seconds in 5300nm of racing.
Normally a Hearing won't be scheduled unless there is a matter of some substance found by the measurer, whose standard reporting line is to the International Jury. So the implication is that something has been found - whether that is relatively minor, or something more serious remains to be seen.
In the professional era measurement infringements are usually in the minor and inadvertent category, but are put through the Jury process to clear the record on the incident, and the penalty is usually minor. However given the small margin of the finish of Leg 4 there could be some alteration in placings.
