Volvo Ocean Race - Impressive Media and Readership for Leg 1
|
Volvo Ocean Race organisers have released the Media and readership statistics for the first leg of the nine leg race.
 | Alexa web ratings comparision with Americascup.com and VolvoOceanrace.com going back to the 2010 America’s Cup - see the ratings spike to the left of the graphic. - | As expected the event compares more than favourably with the America's Cup World Series which ran its San Diego event around the same time as the start of the Volvo Ocean Race from Alicante. Soon after that start one boat broke her mast and another struck a submerged object and both retired from the leg - creating significant news interest. It should also be noted that the peak traffic for the 2010 America's Cup is higher, according to Alexa ratings, as the 2011-12 Volvo Ocean Race start. However due to its short-lived nature, the 2010 America's Cup spiked, before returning at a lower level for the first event of the ACWS, which rated the highest of the three sailed in 2011. The most significant aspect of the Volvo Ocean race media statistics is the volume and diversity of the coverage, which can be expanded across the 10 month duration of the race. While ratings have tapered a little since the start, they have held up remarkably well during the stop/start second leg, underlining significant sponsor exposure and return on investment.
