Another tricky day on Biscayne Bay, here at the Miami Olympic Classes Regatta. Once again the day started off promising with bright sunshine and relatively solid conditions ranging from 5-11 knots pending the race areas you were on. Over the course of the day the variance in breeze on the race courses remained with the more North Easterly courses enjoying slightly more wind than the South West course areas. Within each individual race area the stories of success and failure were varied, with one thing ringing true, finding the pressure lanes and staying in the pressure made life easy, doing this on the other hand was far from easy.
The Laser Olympic trials remains on the front burner in terms of excitement with David Wright (RCYC) and Chris Dold (RCYC) each sailing with determination in this series thus far. They sit second and third respectively in this quality international fleet, they each enjoyed solid days today with David posting a 1-4 and Chris a 3-2, the pair sailed in separate fleets as they will again tomorrow before the fleet is split into Gold and Silver fleets for the final days of the event.
Equal attention is being directed to the Radial fleet where a whole group of women remain in contention for the Olympic berth. After starting the event on fire yesterday Daniel Dube (RNSYS) slid back to ninth overall after todays racing posting a 24-26. Lisa Ross (RNSYS) currently sits 16th with Isabella Bertold (RVYC) in 17th. After tomorrows racing, a drop will come into play which will adjust to the overall scores as the fleet progresses into the second half of the events schedule.
Around other race courses Canadians incurred varying degrees of single race success including a second place finish for Paul Tingley (RNSYS) which moves him up to second overall. Gordon Cook (RCYC) and Hunter Lowden (RVYC) in the 49er fleet took a bullet in the days final race moving them up to fifth overall. On the RSX Women's course Dominique Vallee (QC) had a solid day posting a 2-3 to move up to third overall.
