St Moritz Match Cup - The Wave Muscat on the move up

The St Moritz Match Cup, sixth stage of the World Match Racing Tour 2011.

With the first day behind them and the cobwebs dusted out, Mirsky lead The Wave Muscat to a flawless 3-0 day, sliding them up into third place.

A new wind direction meant tactician Kyle Langford had his work cut out navigating his way through the endless maze of wind shifts.

The mountain winds struggled to settle today, so the teams were made to battle it out in very light and very shifty winds. Luckily for The Wave Muscat, it was an opportunity to ease into their roles, allowing tactician Kyle Langford to keep his eyes out and piece together the puzzle.

'It is really hard on these boats to get your eyes out' said Langford at the team's debrief on the day. 'It was harder yesterday in the breeze, so it was nice to have a lighter day so we could take our time through the procedures and really nail down the mechanics. Obviously we still have some big improvements to make, but at this venue, I really need the manoeuvres to be the last thing on my mind because the wind is switching around constantly and there are some big gains to be made.'

The Wave Muscat was making such gains throughout the day, whether it was against Switzerland's Eric Monnin where a bad start put Mirsky on the back foot. By the top mark however, Langford had pulled the team back into the race, and with some clever positioning, the team forced a penalty on Monnin, which he carried all the way to the finish, allowing The Wave Muscat to slip past and claim another win to add to their tally.
