New Zealand matchracing team, Waka Racing, led by Phil Robertson, report after Day 1 of the sixth stage of the World Match Race Tour - St Moritz Match Race :

Hi Friends and Family,

Pristine conditions greeted us this morning as we left the dock. The sun was shining and the breeze was blowing. Perfect for racing. We didn't have the best start, promptly losing our first two races by small margins. To the teams credit we fought back in the third by putting a double penalty on Torvar Mirsky in a fierce luffing match downwind.

A five race break awaited us before we went out late in the afternoon for two more. A ripper of a race against tour leader Bruni didn't quite fall our way. We both conceded penalties in the pre start, with his being an immediate one. After sailing a flawless race we still had a penalty outstanding and chose to do it on the finish line. With a lead just big enough to complete it, we couldn't execute the turn to perfection and he sailed by. Once again the team bounced back and we picked up the last win of the day against Clerc the local Swiss qualifier.

Quite a frustrating day as we just couldn't make it click. Breakfast in bed has been cancelled tomorrow as it didn't work today.

A special thanks to all our sponsors Tax Management NZ, FedEx Express, KZ Race Furlers, Line 7, RNZYS, Devine Consultants, Frontend Design ad the Waka Racing Supporters Club. Without them we would not have this opportunity to race here and chase our dreams.
