Lark National Championships, hosted by South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club, are currently underway in Abersoch. Hydon’s take two, with Pinn/Owens having a good day at the office too! With two races programmed and light winds forecast, things weren’t looking good for the race officer. Postponement after postponement were going up. Some competitors were misreading these as being from the last one rather than the original start time. Well we live and learn! With Alexander/Rhodes, the Hydon’s and Gray/Forbes left on shore a mad dash was required to make the start. Race one was a gate start with Harris/Bremmer as gate boat. First out of the stalls was Kearny/Dart, although Hydon/Hydon late from the shore tacked through the pin of the gate. With awesome light wind boat speed it was Hydon/Hydon pulled clear. Hydon/Hydon and Kearny/Dart played the left hand side of the course. Norris/Norris went left. Rounding first was Hydon/Hydon with Pinn/Owens and Krailing/Tinsell in third. The placing at the front stayed constant with the Hydon’s taking line honours. Race two began with a slightly increasing wind. Norris/Norris began as gate boat. Kearny/Dart and Hydon/Hydon went early banging the left corner. This proved the right way to go. Hydon/Hydon rounded first with Kearny/Dart second and Mills/Knott third. By the leeward mark position were maintained. Up the second beat Hydon/Hydon hung on until both Mills/Knott and Kearny/Dart had tacked. Hydon/Hydon and Kearny/Dart played the shifts leaving Mills/Knott out on the left. Pinn/Owens squeezed through to third. The results held with the Hydon’s achieving a double victory leaving Kearny/Dart to take second and Pinn/Owens third. Full results available online. Lark Class Owners Association website
