Lark National Championships at Abersoch day 3

'Lark Nationals 2010'    Lark Nationals

Lark National Championships, hosted by South Caernarvonshire Yacht Club, are currently underway in Abersoch.

Sponsors 'Allen' hosted the rig tuning early morning session with a number of Larkies taking advantage of Simon Potts’s clinic.

What a day and certainly a long one! The morning arrived with a reducing 35 knot breeze to a mere 25 knots and it was with huge confused seas. The forecast was for the wind to drop by mid afternoon to a very manageable 15 knots.

A postponement of one hour was posted with a planned start at 12:00. The race officer was very keen to get everyone moving and released tallies. This proved to be a little premature as the wind showed no signs of dropping. Those that ventured past the moored boats were met with brown trouser sailing. The massive swell and wind made it difficult for the RO to get things moving. The signal was then sent to send everyone ashore. Steve Chatten had however lost his mast during an unfortunate capsize. Safely ashore the RO planned a 4:00pm start.

The Olympic course was set with Will Croxford as gate boat. It was Krailing, Biglin and Roome that went out of the gate early taking a shift that enabled them to cross the fleet. Early on it was Roome ahead crossing in front of Krailing as they split tacks; however Krailing decided to approach from the left, which proved to be key decision for the race. Krailing opened a safe lead by the first mark followed by Roome. Steve Hall who was in second overall going into the day rounded well down in double figures. With masterful tactics he managed to drive up to third by the second triangle. It was on the second triangle that Roome let Hall in, which allowed Hall into second place. Krailing took the gun with Hall second just in front of Roome.

Results:
1st Alan Krailing and Tim Linsell
2nd Steve Hall and Simon Haighton
3rd Charlie Roome and David Marlow
