Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week - Trade wind start expected
|
The Northern Queensland weather gods seem to be smiling on the 22nd annual Meridien Marinas Airlie Beach Race Week, with 15-17 knots south easterly expected for the start of the series on Friday morning, easing back to 11-15 on Saturday before lifting into the low 20's for Sunday. A smiling PRO Denis Thompson said this afternoon ‘ This is what everyone comes for!!’ If the breeze is as currently forecast, the first race for the 130 boat record fleet will be the traditional Cones-Armit race, a 31 nautical mile race for IRC and multihulls, 23 nm for IRC Cruising, Super 30, Performance Racing and Cruising 1 division and 19 nm for Cruising 2, Non-Spinnaker and Sports Boats. About half of the big fleet are now berthed in the Abel Point Marina, numbers of the race fleet are sailing the Whitsunday Sailing Club Wednesday afternoon race. Sail-World.com will provide detailed coverage of this regatta and another two up in this neck of the woods over the next month. Lots of news from Weymouth, Cascais and plenty of Extreme 40 Crash and Burn
