At the Weymouth and Portland International Regatta, day two has witnessed the Women’s Match Racing round robin take place at the London 2012 Olympic Test Event, in Weymouth, U.K. with Sally Barkow’s Team 7 Match Race now up to five wins, two losses, standing the team in third overall in the round robin.

Today was an official practice race for the Men’s and Women’s RS:X fleet, while the other U.S. teams went out for a day of practice. With crew Alana O’Reilly (Charleston, S.C.) and Elizabeth Kratzig Burnham (Miami Beach, Fla.) Barkow (Nashotah, Wis.) sailed in the afternoon group going against and dropped only one race against Finland’s Silja Lehtinen. They stand in third overall in the round robins, which continue tomorrow where the eight quarterfinalists will be determined.

The Schedule: Racing in the RS:X fleets begins tomorrow with practice racing scheduled for Laser, Radial, and Men’s and Women’s 470s. The 470s, Laser and Laser Radial events begin on Friday, August 5, and the Finn, Star and 49er classes get underway on Saturday, August 6. The medal races will run August 11-13.

Erin Maxwell (Wilton, Conn.), 2008 470 World Champion with Isabelle Kinsolving Farrar (Fishers Island/New York, N.Y.), talks about training here.

'The wind filled in, it’s been a light couple of days and we’re psyched to get out there and try out one of the new racecourses for the venue.'

On the fleet expectations: 'For us it’s kind of exciting because there are less good teams here as many countries have more than one good team and they can only send one team (to this event). The top of the fleet gets thinner, but every points matters that much more.'

On the event’s long schedule: 'I don’t know I’ve sailed an event this long. It will be different with all these lay days. You have to use your downtime well and get rested.'

The Team: The U.S. Team is comprised of 16 athletes – nine men, seven women. Full team roster available here.

The US Sailing Team AlphaGraphics communications team will host live coverage of the U.S Team competing at the London 2012 Olympic Test Event.

The Regatta: Designed to test the Olympic sailing venue and its operations in advance of the 2012 Games, the 2011 Weymouth and Portland International Regatta (an official London 2012 Olympic Test Event) takes place August 2-13 and will welcome 460 sailors competing in 10 Olympic classes.
