NZL team in Singapore for the Optimist Asian Champs - Day 4 and 5

Report from the NZL team in Singapore for the Optimist Asian Champs - Day 4 and 5:

Day 5: All smiles

All smiles in the kiwi camp on arrival at NSC as welcomed by a solid 12-15 kts Racing got away on schedule with Sam Simpson first to show conditions more to his liking with a good 12th despite having started the day face first in the little room. Race 8 stood out with Hamish sixth and Sam Barnett seventh. James cracked in a tenth place after a great last beat but unfortunately was OCS (Flag I at 50 sec which he thought he was well back) which then got even worse as it turned to a DNE due to a second Judge penalty for Rule 42 on the reach and didn't know he should RETire - you live and learn.

R9 saw Henry Gautrey have a cracker, near the front all way around about 7th across the line but unfortunately another OCS. Hamish had a ratchet block failure and saw him struggle near the back. Rumour is 20 ratchet block failures throughout the fleet; no names mentioned Mr Harken!

Generally a better day for the Kiwis with some individual displays showing they can foot it with the best. Starts still key ( shock horror) and a bit more tactical nous are really the order of the day.

Off the water early as R10 didn't take opportunity to crack off another one so all on for young and old tomorrow and hopefully the breeze hangs in. Apparently today the breeziest day of the year today and for quite some to me before that.

Some of the kids had the benefit of an additional hand when derigging as Jim Murdoch (Andrew's dad and YNZ Board Member) dropped in for an hour or so to see how the Kiwi team was doing which was well appreciated.

A quiet night back at the salubrious CBR. Big day tomorrow- Scotty's birthday 14 and never been kissed (Tui!)

Day 4: A no sailing day but by far the most dramatic for one family

Some of the sailors headed over to Sentosa for the day or part thereof. The Jennings's were on a Big Day Out to some old haunts in Nth Singapore Unfortunately it all turned pear shaped at 1st base when we got separated on the MRT. Long story short it was 2hrs before we were reunited. Dad was starting to get highly stressed and both parties very happy to see one another again! Definitely puts being an Opti parent in perspective and as long as I can see him on the course tomorrow don't care how he's going, well maybe just a little bit! After that there isn't too much to add really. Back to the reason for being here tomorrow.
